I think people need to go back and re-watch the game.
besides the fake FG which was just absolutely dumb af, the play calling was more about the situation and wasn't bad, it was much more to do with execution, mainly by Stafford and his receivers
here is what doomed us more then anything
Stafford chucking the deep ball to a WR who had been on team for ONE practice...INT
Niners then dink and dunk and run ball for an 11 minute drive 7-0 Niners
Rams get the ball back, start moving ball well...Higbee then decides to gift the Niners another TD(not putting that on Stafford or McVay) = 14-0 Niners
Rams get the ball back with 1 1/2 minutes left in 1st qtr ....march down the field in about 3 minutes with a very clutch 75 yard TD drive with 13 mins left in first half 14-7
here is what turned out to be an absolute killer
Rams have Niners on a 3rd and 2 on their 18 yard line with a chance to get right back in this game with a stop.... Rams stuff a toss play to get off the field and get us ball back with 12 minutes left and great field position....NOPE!!! Both Donald and Floyd jump offsides and Niners get free first down
This was an absolute game changer
Niners get second life and proceed to take that gift and dink and dunk another 6 minutes off the clock and a 12 yard Deebo TD
21-7 Niners
So instead of getting ball back with great field position with 12 minutes left down 14-7 we are now down 21-7 with just over 5 minutes left ....
Rams get ball back and once again go right down the field and get into redzone...Hendo five yard run put us at 2nd and 5 at 15
next play Allen forgets to hike the ball or it got glued to the turf? False start
Screen to Higs, stuffed...Throw to Hendo and now we're stuck settling for the FG and a 21-10 deficit at halftime...Nope! Fake FG fails miserably 21-7 halftime
This wasn't a loss due to not running the ball, it was a loss due to dumb mistakes, costly penalties and dropped balls.....It wasn't about being soft, it was about being stupid
