I enjoyed this read.
Here’s Mackeyser…
Our D gave up two 90+ yard drives with the 9ers doing what the 9ers do. If anything, this isn't the heaviest running version we've seen from them, but when you only have two down linemen covering the four internal gaps and one or both of them are 1 gap... Kyle's smart enough to simply take that matchup ALL NIGHT.
So yeah, this is on Morris because this has become a pattern where even when faced with 22 personnel, he's in a pass rushing set and only changed when it was clear that Kyle wasn't just running it down our throat but using the EXACT SAME PLAY multiple times in a row and we just couldn't stop it.
Now, if someone punches me in the face once... I'm gonna try to make that not happen again, but the color guy last night said at one point, it looked like they ran the exact same play to either side, but the same play like 6 times in a row and it wasn't until he went 4 DL plus the outside LBs before we stopped it.
I mean, what's so hard to understand about keeping a heavy box against the 9ers?
18 play, 11 minute drive? That's a damn gut punch and we never really recovered.
And we still coulda battled back, but the rest of the team was off as well, but the biggest takeaway from this game for the other teams in the NFL is that we just refuse to load a heavy box to stop the run even if you show 22 personnel.
It's like in 2018 when teams would run that 6-1 against us. It's a schematic problem that EVERYONE ran in 2019 until we figured it out.
Well, for the rest of the year, expect teams big and small to at least TRY to RAM it down our throats. Some teams won't have the players to do it, but all the ones that matter to us CAN and WILL.
Can you imagine the @#$%& kicking we got coming if the Cards run the Kyle game plan against us??? It'll be an epic wrecking unless we get this fixed over the break.
I think the O will be fine. I think the D is schematically a HUGE problem going forward.
