Here’s Mackeyser…
I get that and McVay shares culpability. (Regarding a proposed firing of Morris)
But Morris is morphing Staley's highly effective 3-4 hybrid into a really @#$%& quasi-4-3 hybrid and it's the worst of both worlds and ONLY works if the Rams are playing with a lead. It's not just built to stop the run, it's incapable of stopping a sustained running attack.
Even other fans on twitter and other comment sections noticed the Rams playing only two down linemen and then two OLBs as their "front" against heavy packages like 22 and 32 personnel. It was basically permission to have the ball jammed down our throats.
And at least from the body language, it seems that Ramsey, who's an incredible football mind, seemed to have an issue with Morris refusing to adjust. Once they went to 3 and then 4 down linemen plus OLBs, we stuffed the run, but we REFUSED to stick with it when the gameplan from SF was solely to run short routes and run the ball to take our pass rushers out of the game.
It was very Belichickian. I can't think of another coach in this league other than Harbaugh that would just run it 40 times in a game even with the run game working... but it's pretty simple. If a team is just gonna give you the game, shut up and take it.
Morris is changing this D for the worst. That' s on Morris.
It's also on McVay for letting him.
