Well said, I just think in today's game a coach's job has to be to use the talent he has in the best way possible.
The Rams have elite talent for any scheme he wants to run. They have to try and make the qb hold the ball a tad longer, I don't want bump and run because they cant hold up in that... what I would love it more of a disguise come up and drop the outcome up and impede the route and drop into your zone.
Let Jalen get on a guy and take him away...IMO the Rams would have had a chance if he would have been on a stayed on Deebo all night. Make those other guys beat you and make those other WRs win over Rochelle with Rochelle closer to him or even with inside leverage, get Long back on the field please...
What do you think about Long? I see him as having some pretty bad luck, outside of Ramsey his coverage has been as tight as anyone , he just cant catch a break with guys catching everything with him hanging all over them most of the time.
To me Rochelle just isnt ready to play at best he should be CB 5 or 6, I like DD better then him with Long and Williams ahead as well.
Curious how you see the Rams CBs.
My opinion is that somehow we had a group of special guys last year that clicked and stayed healthy. John Johnson was a leader and held it together. Hill was better than we realized, and Williams only played outside last year. When we were in base defenses, Hill and Ramsey were the CBs, when we went nickel Hill was the nickel and Williams played outside -- OR -- Ramsey played nickel (star) and Hill played outside with Williams... and those were generally the 5 guys that played...sometimes when Johnson played LBer---Scott would play safety.
This year it's been a mess. Ramsey has been there every week. The safeties have been there every week. The CBs? Williams hurt, Long benched, Rochelle started well, not as good. DD playing well, then missed this game, which hurt.
I know we have about as many sacks as last year, but Idon't see as much pressure. I think if we could have replacved Fox with someone who could get some inside push it would help. Good pressure helps coverage.
Gaines and A-ROb, i nthe 5-1, and teams throw, do little. I am not suggesting trading Bockers was a bad thing, money-wise it had to happen but Brockers got PUSH---and in pass rush, he did a two-gap thing watching for draws... and he got 5 sacks. In a pass rush, in nickle you need 3 great guys with one steady guy and Brockers was that steady guy, like Merlin Olsen late in his career....not what he was in his prime.
Anyway, I am rambling, it's late
Our defense for the first half of the season is not as talented as 2020. It's a step below. Guys that were call it a "B" are noe a "C" --all across the board
my opinion is slightly less talent leads to poorer execution and that does lead to regression from a top 1-2 defense to wherver they are now--depending on category 8-9-10-11-12---
