Part of the answer is that the Rams are built to run multiple scheme based on what the opposition presents. Until the game gets rolling, nobody knows what the opponent's gameplan is (NE notwithstanding). Also, Stafford is a streaky QB and with a new offense, wouldn't it be natural to take time to get in rhythm? Another factor is that our special teams suck and that has shown up at the beginning of most games this season. Finally, a bend but not break defense means the opponent gets a chance to get in a couple long drives before the defense clamps down in the red zone.

Now, I'm certain McVay and Co consider all these factors excuses they don't tolerate and problems they intend to solve. I believe it's a point of emphasis now but the underlying issues remain.
