Re: What the hell is a "tackling plan"?.....

Speculation on my part, but typically coaches who run zone concepts on defense rely on limiting damage by focusing on sound tackling and trying to contest catches by arriving at the same time that ball does. Seattle and it’s Cover 3 is a good example, especially the Legion of Boom years. QBs checked down, or tried to get over the top, but rarely went across the middle. Seattle at its best was a sound tackling team that had players that would not miss tackles or be out of position. Kam Chancellor as the single high safety in their Cover 3was so good at helping limit big plays by helping out their corners. In addition Chancellor patrolled the middle of the field that WRs and TEs feared crossing and seam routes. Two important players on the Rams’ defense that need to make more plays IMO are Fuller and Young. Young when he’s the only LB’s first read is run then drops back to cover the middle (crossing routes and the flat). Fuller needs to make his reads quickly to help on longer developing routes, and be an enforcer on run plays. Last year Fuller made some plays as the traditional FS and needs to be that type of playmaker again. How many big plays has Fuller made so far this season ? I think Morris didn’t want to say hey these guys missed a ton of tackles. Think back to the Rams’ offense last year, we rarely threw passes longer than 10 yards so good tackling teams that limited the YAC knew the recipe for beating this offense. As complicated as football has become it still comes down to the fundamentals and execution.

he said "we did not execute our tackling plan"........I did not know that teams have plans on tackling...other then just doing the fundamentals.....tackle.....what is the plan?....I've heard coaches say we need to tackle better, but never execute our tackle plan.
