I am a huge fan of Sean McVay, but I saw this last year, an offense with skilled route runners and no deep threats and an ordinary running game. Kupp, Woods and Jefferson are the same receiver Kupp is by far the best of the bunch but nobody scares you like a Desaun Jackson does. McVay loves a great route runners, so much so he puts one at every wide receiver position. Our offense is at is best when it has a receiver than can take the top off (Sammy Watkins or Brandin Cooks) which allows Kupp, Woods and Higbee to work underneath. I like Sony Michelle but he has to be the slowest running back in the league. We have no game breakers, Kupp is great at finding a hole in a blown coverage but pretty soon, teams are going to put their best CB in a trail position on Kupp and we are going to look like last year.
Stafford is 10 times the QB that Goff is but McVay is not opening it up, he has a little Mike Martz in him, Stafford windows are getting smaller and smaller, thank god he is super accurate.
You seem more concerned with Stafford putting up good stats than anything else. Which to be honest sort of bugs me about your posts.
Bears tried to load the box and got burned. Colts were more careful. The offense is fine. Actually the Rams' defense played better as well vs the Colts and some of what we saw can be attributed to Wentz making plays.
Anyway. This season is not going to be about padding Stafford's stats so his fanboys can reign supreme in their fantasy leagues. It's going to be about finding offensive balance and the type of defensive production that wins us a championship. Settle down with the Stafford worship, he's going to hoist a Lombardi with us at some point in the next few seasons and that's what matters IMO.
I like the way the guy in that msn article said, Kupp has been the focal point of the offense and has 16 catches for 271 yards (16.9) and 3 TDs!!! Yeah, we better stop with that crap!!! Maybe it's like some have been saying....McVay isn't going to show the whole playbook in the first 2 weeks. Let me guess who Tampa will be keying on.....
Not only that but we have big pass plays of 37 (Higbee), 43 (Kupp), 44 (Kupp), 56t (Kupp) and 67t (Jefferson) in 2 weeks. I don't know that we're missing that deep threat just yet.
