For the most part the Bear's OL had no LB's to contend with Hence all the double teams on the LOS. And I don't mean 'bad LB play'.. I mean no LB's in any sort of traditional LB positioning. Not on EVERY play, obviously... but many.
And I DO think no preseason tackling had an impact.
During the game, and this from the 1st D play of the game, I thought the DL's aggression, (charge off the snap), was very good... but that the Bears nearly always had the one specific hole targeted where the 'gap' appeared, and no LB to contend with once the LOS was broached, at least not in the 3yd's just beyond the LOS.
I'm not trying to 'excuse' the DL's run defense... but I do think the scheme for this specific Bear's game was not at all geared to stop the run. - JamesJM
