Was Goff a bad leader? I don't know. The problem is, when did you EVER hear players talk admiringly of Goff, and what a locker room leader he was, and how approachable, etc. ? When did you ever get the sense that Goff was a guy who'd say "get on my back and I'll carry you to victory"?
Goff had the persona of a laid-back California surfin' dude. He was not the brightest bulb in the room. You didn't see guys gravitate towards him. Naturally when pushed McVay or another player would talk about Goff leading quietly in his own way.
That's just NFL player talk because you never want to speak negatively about a teammate.
Goff clearly lacked leadership even though he was a competent player, and by all accounts a decent enough guy.
When the Rams acquired Stafford the very first thing his Lion's teammates talked about was his immense leadership. So, yes, there is a mountain of a difference in that department.
Add in probably top 3 or 4 arm talent, his experience, his toughness, and his mind and he is a huge upgrade. Football people up and down the line make no bones about it. It's not just Rams fans.
I don't know 100% either Rock.
As an NFL QB, Goff was a little above average imo.
He never came across as an all in, devoted lead the team guy NFL quarterback.
I wish him well but I'm quite happy they traded for Staff.
