On Friday, it has been reported that teams are eyeing a trade with Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Connor McGovern. McGovern was a third-round pick out of Penn State in the 2019 draft who has versatility at the center and guard position. At Penn State, the 6’5, 323-lb guard was a huge part of the run game creating lanes for current New York Giants star running back Saquon Barkley.

The Los Angeles Rams’ depth at the offensive line to this point hasn't been encouraging at all, especially in the run game. Head coach Sean McVay wasn't pleased with their performance against the Chargers and although not directly calling the group out, it was evident that is what he was eluding to by calling the run game ‘sloppy’.

The Rams trading for McGovern could open up a slew of possibilities in shaking up the offensive line. McVay says he’s happy with center Brian Allen through training camp, but could just be coachspeak? McGovern has the size of what the LA Rams were looking to shift their offensive line to, hence letting Austin Blythe walk and sign with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Having experience on the Cowboys’ offensive line could help the Rams in many ways, as the Dallas OL is one of the best in the league year in and year out. Now it’s been seen that during the Rams-Cowboys joint practice, defensive tackle Aaron Donald completely embarrassing McGovern, but Donald does that to almost every player he gets a one on one matchup with in the NFL. Dallas is reluctant not to trade him and view him as a potential starter.

Now, this could just be to drive up the price on him by calling him a starter but honestly we know that Jerry Jones would probably trade him in a heartbeat. The Cowboys are set on their offensive line and LA could be the beneficiary of a player that could provide a ton of value.

It wasn’t long ago that the Rams made a meal out of Austin Corbett, an interior offensive lineman who the Cleveland Browns didn’t even know how to put on the table. Could they rinse and repeat with the Cowboys’ leftovers?
