Xavier Jones the best RB without a combine inviteBy BILLY EMBODY Apr 13, 2020
Former SMU running back Xavier Jones notched 25 total touchdowns in his final season playing for the Mustangs, good enough to lead the NCAA in points per game during the 2019 season at 11.6 points per contest.
It wasn't good enough an NFL Combine invitation and without a Pro Day, Jones is left to letting his film do the talking to NFL teams. NFL Draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah said Sunday that Jones is his best running back that didn't land an invitation to Indianapolis for the annual draft showcase.
"Spent the day watching RBs w/o combine invitation," Jeremiah wrote on Twitter. "Best of the bunch? SMU RB Xavier Jones. 5’11 208 (no pro day) Excellent vision, balance and toughness. Lacks elite top speed. Reliable in pass game."
I think that's a really good summation of him. Only thing I'd add is that his cutting ability is very instinctive. Not all backs can do that.
