Chart shows Cooper Kupp gets open more than any other WR in the NFL

Cooper Kupp generated a lot of hype when he was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams despite only being a third-round pick. Fans were excited to watch the Eastern Washington receiver, and he’s not only lived up to those high expectations, but he’s exceeded them.
Since 2017, no receiver has gotten open more than Kupp or gained yards after the catch at a higher rate than the Rams receiver. That’s abundantly clear on this chart from Tej Seth, who runs the account Michigan Football Analytics on Twitter.
Kupp has been deemed “open” on more than 50% of his targets, and he gains an average of 4-plus yards after the catch – the only receiver to eclipse both thresholds.
Robert Woods isn’t to be ignored on this chart, either. He’s only slightly lower than Kupp and a little bit to the left, but he still gets open more than just about any other receiver in the league. He’s also excellent after the catch.
Part of Woods and Kupp ranking so highly is because of Sean McVay’s scheme, which helps get receivers open thanks to route combinations and play designs, but those two receivers are among the best in the NFL and are as quarterback-friendly as they come.
Now just imagine what they’re going to do with Matthew Stafford at quarterback and DeSean Jackson opening things up for them underneath as a deep threat.
