Ebukam could turn out to be a good one in a different scheme.
He just didn't bring everything that was required in the Rams D, either the Phillips version or the Staley version.
...
Saying a journeyman NFL player all of a sudden turns out to be a good one and produces because he's in a different scheme on a different team does have merit.
Recently Leonard Floyd & Devonte Fowler turned out better seasons playing for the Rams when they moved on from their prior teams.
There are many other cases when a player switched teams and became better player statistically and for other various reasons.
Ebukam was not a slouch for the Rams but he never seemed to take the next step even with Donald getting all the double teams.
He was a splash and flash player but didn't warrant a contract extension for the Rams.
Salary cap issues and other intangibles just didn't point in his favor to get resigned. He had 4 seasons to make his mark. He was decent but never showed enough to be a worthy of resigning. I know you already know this.
I wouldn't be surprised if he has a career year with the 49ers but a career year for Ebukam
has a low bar when you look at his prior production over the last four seasons.
After 4 seasons with the Rams...Games 2017: Games 16, Tackles 30, Solo 25, Assists 5, Sacks 2, INT 0
Games 2018: Games 16, Tackles 36, Solo 21, Assists 15, Sacks 3, INT 1
Games 2019: Games 16, Tackles 45, Solo 23, Assists 22, Sacks 4.5, INT 1
Games 2020: Games 16, Tackles 28, Solo 15, Assists 13, Sacks 4.5, INT 0
