It does seem to be the Rams long term strategy.

The Rams clearly see 1st rounders as poker chips (as Les likes to say) that buys us into the game. Demoff seconded it by quoting percentages of success of picks and how when you use picks to get a proven NFL player, the hit rate rate is nearly 100%. What better way to spend your high picks, especially if you expect those picks to be in the bottom 1/3rd of the draft, and even lower. The Rams may never for many years draft higher than 20 because of the young FO, young HC, a supporting and non-meddling owner with deep pockets, and a successful team in a location that young players want to be.

The only thing that can screw this is up is if the Rams decided to change their philosophy. Then, there will be a transition period.
