and it works so long as the FO drafts mid round starters and can replenish the players that leave with serviceable to star replacements.

Running a team this way seems like it could be every 5-7 yrs before the team needs a 1-3yr rebuild of talent/influx of high end talent again.
But we are currently built to win for the next 3yrs and be highly, highly successful in the play-offs and -gulp- even the SB.

What happens when you run out of stars?

Don't get me wrong--I believe in building around a few key stars. On defense anyway.

But it does raise the question--what happens when their time is up.

...

Must find a few new stars among those round 2-7 picks to build around, I guess.

And as the AD’s and Ramsey’s retire, more cap room becomes available to spend on new FA stars. An endless cycle IF Rams can keep the incoming pipeline reasonably well filled with talent.

The only way is free agency and trades.

Ramsey was a 5th pick, and Donald a 13th--and of course they were lucky Donald fell that far.

It does seem to be the Rams long term strategy.
