The trend seems to be to less beefy but faster, more versatile guys that can block some like a large WR but not as well as the old prototypical model like a Kyle Rudolph that can take on a DE one on one but also can run a short pattern or rub off and cross in front of a LB and catch a short pass.

Now we have the TEs that are amazing and fast athletes that are essentially overgrown WRs, and play that way. They can run by LBs, and some Safeties.

The Rams use their WRs as effective blockers. I think they just want a guy like Harris to be a 2nd TE, 4th WR, that can block a little, will never be able to take on a DE, but will be able to get in his way and kind of wall off an area of a zone the way a basketball forward will wall off a defensive player but can't "block" him. But, then have the speed and length to outmatch most Secondary players.

A guy like this has the potential to wreak havoc if he can develop a little more. I think the odds are he'll be a full time STs guy, and probably a guy used in certain packages as he gets bigger and develops his skills.... or develops new ones. He's simply raw, but if you have ever watched him play, he is a football player by instinct.

Agreed, the weight isn't a big deal

It is if you want to be an effective blocker at TE, inline or otherwise

He won't be an inline blocker this year

It seems the TE position is changing to large WR from small OLineman
