I'm confused about McVay, and exactly what he expects, AT 100% Efficiency, from his offense... both in terms of the specific plays, the strategy in the red zone, the individual positions, the blocking... ALL of it...
Last year he seemed to me throttled down by who knows what? QB... no doubt part of it. Limited receiving routes? Could be. Lots of things... but his offense seemed throttled down to me. THIS Last year prioritizing an inordinate reliance on caution, which IMHO failed. - this year I don't see that restriction, if indeed that was the case.
I think IF the offense has in years before this been restricted due to McVay's confidence, or perhaps a narrow view of each individuals abilities, that would certainly appear to NOT be the case this year. IOW... this year should be as open as it's going to get, the full game plan so to speak.
I realize using the term 'throttled down' it can easily be seen or interpreted as 'vanilla', but that's not what I mean by that at all. McVay IS innovative... has always been so... but at the same time I think restricted by his own inner doubts. - JamesJM
