Big Whit will retire and Rams must choose one of extending Boom (assuming his run blocking has improved sufficiently), an expensive FA, or a premium draft pick. Pick one. It would have been nice if Rams had added a quality LOT in this draft so that they could have a year to develop and assess, but they went in other directions. Sigh...

I agree it's likely that Whit retires. Thing is I think the Rams really wanted to add a quality LOT in this draft. A fair criticism is that maybe they should have tried harder to do so. It may have required aggressively trading up.

But I also have a feeling that they're decently high on Noteboom. If Whit retires, they will have his $14M to roll into the LOT position.

I kinda like Boom, myself.

Frankly, he would have started a year or so ago except Whit just keeps on trucking and refuses to retire. Definitely a champagne problem.

Boom’s pass pro, knowledge of playbook, ability to read D’s, and general football smarts has been fine for several years. He just needs to bolster his run blocking to be a top level LOT. He’s currently my most likely solution to the ‘22 LOT vacancy. I predict Rams extend him without completely breaking the bank.
