Wichita Falls??? Texas?? Wow....
One of my best friends is from Andover, another in Lawrence, and my aunt and uncle live in Overland Park. So I'm pretty familiar with Kansas myself.
I was born and raised an hour south of KCMO (Clinton), technically a part of the metro area, though you wouldn't know it by the looks.
I'm pretty familiar with Oklahoma, too, as I went to undergrad there. I consider it my adopted state, but that's beside the point.
I always thought folks from Texas had a lot of pride, but I've realized, like you, that people take pride in their hometown no matter where they're from. As evinced when someone jacks up the difference between KCMO and KCK around someone from the area.
