First off the auto-answer is LT. Because of supply and demand and the importance of blindside protection to a QB.
But when I ask myself which position will help us more LT comes off. It's a massive need but it is a future need because like it or not Whit is among the best at his position right now in how he is playing. Yes he's old and the wheels can fall off that truck at any time. But I think if all things are equal given that I have Whit I prioritize another position. LT draft pick probably does not help us this year and I want impact at 57.
So from there the greatest need is Center. But the guys you can take there at 57 aren't all that much different from the guys you can take in round 3. So IMO for pick 57 center comes off. Now note that a lot of folks love Meinerz and I like him too but I don't think he's a center in 2021. Which means he doesn't move the bar at Center. But it also means he's considered at OG for us effectively for 2021 and in that respect IF they plan on Corbs or Anchrum playing the pivot Meinerz could play quickly for us. Him next to Hav for example imagine the movement we'd get. But either way Center comes off at 57 for me for the reasons above. In fact if you're really concerned with the position to the extent where you want it for your first choice then move down a bit and take it plus get a pick.
CB is a need for us in two respects: the slot for 2021 and to replace Williams in 2022. If you were to take a slot corner however you don't need to take him in round 2. Slots are plentiful, they're the guys who aren't good enough to play outside the hashes. Also there are slot FAs still out there who we may sign. As well as two options in-house to fill slot in Long and Burgess. So if the main need at corner is to potentially replace Williams that would be a smart thing to do but unnecessary at this moment in time if you were chasing a championship this year and wanted to maximize impact at 57.
Which brings us to OLB and for us specifically blindside. Now with this position not only is it a need for 2021 but it's also like LT a cornerstone position where having one of those guys has a massive impact on the rest of the defense. We could look at the depth chart and figure we were #1 last year so why not let Lewis mature and maybe Oko puts it all together. And that's valid. But for me personally I am not sold on Lewis and I think we need someone now who can rush well added to that group.
ILB can't really compare to OLB unfortunately in terms of impact. But I will say that ILB would have a bigger chance for me than the rest of the other needs. For me it would be OLB vs ILB and the floor of our ILB position works in its favor in terms of potential impact of hitting on one of those guys.
I guess my answer then is whichever player I like more between all the LBs. Which guy offers the most impact to my defense.
