Some key points:
1. McVeigh does a good job of scheming wide receivers open. We already know that of course. But the video talks about how McVeigh's 11 personnel causes predictability from the defense and how they have to go cover three. The video says that golf face cover three far more than any other coverage because of this personnel grouping.
2. According to the poster, Woods and cup got opened far more than any other receiver that Stafford has had during the last couple of years. That means that Stafford will have easier throws to make. The poster goes on to say that the Ram scheme receivers wide open while the Detroit Lions never really prioritize that, often relying on Stafford to make perfect throws. now this benefits of us of course because Stafford can now have easier throws but if he needs to hit the tight window he can do so.
3. Stafford is really good on Play action passes. You all already know how that's going to fit into our system. But the lines only ran play action about 23% of the time while the Rams run at about 35% of the time.however the poster notes that 45% of the Rams play action is on rollouts where golf was apparently much better than Stafford in terms of yards per attempt and QB rating. Play action passes in the pocket, Stafford average 10 yd for attempt ( insane ) in a quarterback rating of 110.
4. Stafford is both more accurate down field and has a higher tendency to do so, as we all know.
5. Poster of the video notes that because Stafford is such an efficient downfield passer and because the Rams didn't do so last year the beginning of the season might take a little bit of time to gel for the offense.
The stat I saw has Stafford ranked 18th in the league in terms of long ball completion percentage. People talk about MS's long ball but they never give numbers. He has the arm but thus far his accuracy on long passes is not elite.
The thing that interests me the most about Stafford coming to the Rams is not simply MS fitting into McV's scheme. It's McV tweaking the scheme to take advantage of Stafford, who is a cagey veteran qb whose first start in the NFL was in 2009, when 23 year old Sean McVay was the receivers coach for the Florida Tuskers.
