I think it is real because everyone knows that Goff's confidence is shot. So when you're bringing in Goff, and he needs a shot in the arm, do you then say publicly that QB is absolutely on their radar? I think not. It's not unlike when McVay began to sour on Goff it became obvious and you knew that was the end of Goff's time with the Rams.
Well, the Lions are making no commitment to Goff and letting the world know it.
And I still think that they Lions see Goff as a hole filler/transition guy for the short term.
And.....if no QB is there at #7 that screams "LIONS!!", they can wait until later, or trade down and get more picks, or wait until next year. Lions very unlikely to be better with Goff at the helm than with Stafford..... doesn't matter the HC because they just don't have the horses (or at least, so it seems), and they are going to lose their 2 best WRs (and they are VERY good WRs) whom they aren't going to improve on and will likely go with a cheap vet plus a draft pick.
I'd bet that the Lions choose higher in 2022 than they do this year. This is the start of a complete rebuild.
