That sounds like a great idea.

The reason the owners would resist is that the players would end up with more than the 48% of league revenues that the CBA dictates. The money that a player gets that doesn't count against the cap would come out of that owner's piece of the pie. Some owners might not care since it's money spent to make their team more competitive, but not all owners operate that way.
