I'm not judging Morris by this. Though it's important to know he has a lot of stuff to work through. He's adapting the Staley system, which isn't his. He has not coordinated a defense for more than a few games. That just means he's a relative unknown. I do wish they had kept Pleasant, if nothing else.

Odds are, this hire means he's someone McVay knows and likes, and who was willing to come in and learn a new defense.

That doesn't sound like the makings for a #1 ranked defense but it could very well stay top 10. Nothing we know right now says they can't.

In Detroit, Stafford only played with two top 10 defenses, in either yards or points, his entire time there--the 2014 Lions D was 2nd in yards and 3rd in points (and that year led to the best record they had while Stafford was there--11-5.) The 2018 defense was 10th in yards but 16th in points.

  So they hired a scapegoat?

promomasterj150February 16, 2021 02:41PM

Probably best available with established experience, including HC work.

NewMexicoRam160February 16, 2021 02:30PM

Well, it can't just be swept under the rug.

RockRam135February 16, 2021 11:53AM

Blowing leads is on the HC.
