The Rams could have hired a better DC than Morris, one who could have, in fact, helped the team win a SB. But rather than do that, they hired an inferior coach who couldn't help as much, and in doing so they diminished their chances of winning the SB. All so they could have someone to blame if they didn't reach the promised land?
