I was surprised at how old he was in his first SB.
Actually he aged well back then and it's ironic as he started with the Vikings, traded to the Giants and then back to Minnesota. My father (Gaint fan) loved Francis Asbury Tarkenton and could not stand Norm Sneed. My Dad felt and still feels a QB that can move is an asset and I always believed that in my coaching days too.
Norm Van Brocklin was the Vikings Head Coach when Tarkenton was first there and they didn't get along, however, nobody got along with the Flying Dutchman. When Bud Grant took over and after dealing with Gary Cuzo, Sneed & Bob Lee, Grant was pleased to be able to bring Tarkenton back. To this day, although Sneed had a good year in 1972, never understood why the Giants made that deal, which sealed their fate of being a doormat of a team during most of the 70's.
