So, they were playing the string along. How do you do that without either lying, tipping your hand, or watching the player spill the beans? For those who have criticized the Rams coaching staff and FO for how they handled this affair, I haven't seen any other option offered up front that would have satisfied all sides involved.
Divorces are painful indeed.
A lot of what you say is about how you think the Rams wanted to move on from Goff. Okay. But notice no one is arguing against that. If a coach wants to move on, rightly or wrongly, that's not really the issue--and in the end you judge that by the results anyway. The results are a few years off.
How you handle the public side of discussing that is a completely different issue.
And Snead was basically just toying with the question in a way that came across as derisive and dismissive. That's not how you show respect to a guy who was your starting qb for 5 seasons, and a guy who was never a character issue on top of it.
There a thousand different ways to be better than that. For example you just say things are under review right now, everything Jared has done for us is respected and deserves respect, but at this moment, there are a lot of questions and discussion to work through but that's internal. You don't make jokes about the very question and end up coming across as a smart...uh...donkey.
