There's some other quirky rules in baseball, too.

I asked an MLB umpire once about a foul ball coming back into fair territory.

I had an idea of the answer, and he confirmed it: if the ball goes foul, but hits like a small piece of gravel or rock ("something natural" and then travels back into fair territory (only in the infield) then it's considered fair. It hits the wall or a player, obviously, it's foul.

So you're telling me a freak thing like the grounds crew missing a freak pebble could potentially unleash holy hell???

To me, that just seems ridiculous.
