I sure did not though I would have from an emotional standpoint.
McVay is no fool. He might get fooled or fool himself into believing that he is the boy genius that he is not but he understands that while he is smart that does not pay the bills or put butts in the seats. No one is wearing a McVay jersey or have fans loving him over results. He is not John Gruden I hope where his personal was more significant that the results.
You have to be able to bench your QB1 because he is not healthy or not giving you a chance to win or compete. Goff has had his struggles as his he and his teamates and coaches have also taken turns struggling. Turning over the ball and the stats for him are embarrassing my defense of Goff. My opinion is if he fixes that he can be our long term starter. If he does not and becomes like Big Ben without the SB win struggling to keep from dropping or throwing a game away then we shoudl certainly look elsewhere but quite frankly our QB2 and Bortles do not seem to be the answer longterm. I had hope for Bortles because of his mobility and size and Arm strength but it appears that arm talent like Goff's is not growing on trees. I believe that Goffs arm talent is why he is still QB1 but the TO bug is very troublesome. I look at Trubisky and what he is able to do mobility wise, can throw a lot of TDs and still struggles to get respect as a franchise QB. I like the good Trubisky and I do not see Wolford in that vane. I have to see the good Wolford. I see the game Wolford and the guy who wants to compete and play and get a chance but his production stars are still too light to make me believe as some do. I just see him needing a full offseason and preseason to showcase talents and that just is not McVays thing so we may never know even if he starts for injured Goff.
Speed I am betting McVay is highly concerned that Goff who has had inconsistency issues could be tripped up in the worst conditions and possibly forever mar his future and worth. On the otherhand being the overthinker that McVay is he may also note that injured stars seem to focus better under that adversity and often gut out wins and lift their team by their exploits. I could see Goff become more decisive on run opportunities as in the past. He could be quicker to anticipate his WRs and get the ball out and ontime as he has done in the past and he could break te game open and be nails and not the the ball where we have few examples but generally he will throw a TD or two to offset.
I can truly say I will try not to put too much criticism to McVay given the stakes for him and I have to allow him to make the evaluation that is best for the team not withstanding I think a hungry and nearly healthy Goff is my preference the rest of the way.
