Is it fair to ask how much opt-out players love football?

January 05, 2021 12:28AM
I was looking over the Rams roster and see that only 1 player is opt-out..... Chandler Brewer.

As I was watching the Rams game, Boomer says how much Wolford loves football because he had other career choices like investment banking. And, how the best players love football so much that they'll do anything to play.

So what does that say..... if anything...... about opt-out players? I suppose there could be some who have medical issues. I seem to recall that Brewer, for instance, beat cancer but apparently the drugs used cause a long term suppression of the immune system (I may not have that right).

But other players I've heard about (like the several who opted out for the Pats) were just fearful about Covid. Or they were.....what, exactly ???

When I see the vast bulk of NFL players including the major stars continue to play it does make me question, in general, the football commitment of the few opt-out players and I wonder if it gives GMs and HCs doubts about these guys that could cloud their futures. I'd be suspicious of a guy who opted-out unless he had an overriding medical condition that made him especially vulnerable, because it tells me that football isn't as important to him as it is for all the other players.
