One our board members-Crazylegs-gave me an autographed photo of Jane Russell who lived near him and I believe was in his church. The reason I've been such a fan is that my mother's boss was the statistician for the Rams when they arrived in So Cal from Cleveland in 1946. My father was killed in the pacific during WW2 and my mother's boss, seemed to want to be a father figure to me. . He took me into the locker room in the Coliseum and introduced me to Bob Waterfield and Elroy Hirsch and some others who, besides VT Smith, I can't remember their names. There was a steak house/ jazz bar on Santa Barbara Ave, near the Coliseum, where mom and I would drive to and take a buss to the Coliseum for Ram home games. After the game we would come back and go into the steak house named Memory Lane. This was a routine whenever we went to a Ram game because several Ram players would come to hang out there. I must have been about 11 at the time but I do remember one of the players dancing with my mom and his girlfriend or wife dancing with me ! May have been Ms. Russell. All I recall is she was beautiful. ( My almost Summer of 42 moment) At some point I do recall being introduced to Jane Russel her near the entrance to the tunnel at the Coliseum. Hence my great appreciation for the signed photo Ms. Russell.
Unfortunately, at the Memory Lane, I also learned something called a dry martini. I think its time to have one now.
As one of my favorite radio personalities, Paul Harvey, used to say on his program "And now you know the rest of the story".
