one thing I think that has factored in

And this is not the main issue by any means but it's something that's been a big difference- their strength of schedule. In both 2017 and 2018 their overall strength of schedule was pretty weak, especially in 2017. They faced a lot of bad teams and a lot of backup QBs in 2017 where the defense was able to get the offense favorable field position. The 2017 offense was legit- but that was a factor. And that's OK. You play who you play. The 1999 Rams' strength of schedule was a joke.

Their SOS in 2019 and now 2020 has been much harder by comparison. Now of course no excuse for things like losing to the Jets. But they have had tougher sledding for sure, especially as their division improved.

When you look at being 24-7 (I remove the 2017 finale vs. SF when they sat almost everyone) which is a .774 win percentage vs. the last two years at 18-13 (.581) it's part of the equation. Split the difference and that's going 11-5 which is I think what this team should be.
