These are not X’s and O’s critiques because those are not my thing.
More of my typical 30,000 foot viewpoint, really, so here goes...
I don’t recognize my Ram O anymore. It’s gone from unstoppable in early ‘18 to pathetic in late ‘20. I wouldn’t have thought this great a decline in such a short time was even possible.
McVay has regressed. There was a time when he was never outcoached but now it seems to occur every week.
Goff has regressed. He’s a shell of his early ‘18 self. Seems to have lost confidence in himself and many of his receivers. No deep throws. Doesn’t see the field well, makes poor throwing decisions, doesn’t read a coming blitz, etc. I’m not sure it’s fixable this offseason.
My kingdom for a RB committee that can stay healthy! Gawd!
WTH is happening to our OL? Two DC’s gave exposed them in back to back games.
When Rams run out of 12 personnel and STILL can’t gain yardage, what does that tell you? Lack of technique, talent, desire? All three?
Opposing DC’s have largely neutered the Ram receivers. Didn’t think that would ever happen in a McVay O. Not ever...
Rams scored 9 freaking points? Not a misprint. Two years ago 30 points would have been considered an ‘off game’, remember?
TE’s are not doing their share, either. Not in catching the ball OR in blocking. Both should be doing much more in this O.
Gonna leave the D and ST alone. For now. Both are playing well enough for a deep playoff run.
But that entire O? It seems to have imploded in virtually every area. When that happens where else to place the blame other than at McVay’s feet?
I am saddened at the realization that I had apparently vastly overestimated this team and these coaches. They are embarrassing themselves weekly anymore. As I’ve posted before, underachievers annoy me and I find it difficult to abide them. I can forgive a lot of things and a lot of mistakes, but underachievers get little sympathy from me. And these coaches and players are definitely underachieving.
