Just thinking out loud. And I am coming around to the idea that finding a WR4 with great speed for 2021 would be good for this team. BUT...whenever they have thrown deep well- whether it was when Watkins was here, or Cooks, or otherwise- it has almost always been from play action. AND we have seen both Woods and Kupp make plays deep. Reynolds too, actually.
So, is their ability to go deep based on....the running game? A blazing WR? Timing? OL protection? Likely all of the above.
Great speed in a WR is always a good thing. I mean, that’s beyond obvious.
But route running, hands, football smarts to read D’s, blocking, verticals, good teammates, etc are also of great value. Even of more value, IMO.
The draft class is loaded with speed merchants every year, but few also have those other qualities.
