I think it wouldn't matter who was the QB, the WR's, the RB's... McVay likes a playbook that minimizes, to the extreme, mistakes and turnovers... which is ironic because mistakes and turnovers are exactly what he's getting. (execution)
I think McVay is ultra-conservative.. but NOT in the traditional sense... which would mean run vs pass. He's NOT Ground Chuck. He's shooting, IMHO, for minimal yds while still moving the chains and trying to keep mistakes and and turnovers to as close to zero as possible while doing it. Problem is... at this time every one and their dog knows it, and how he's attempting to do it.
McVay is innovative. Yes he is... he uses a lot of motion, play-action, blocking schemes to disguise the point of attack... things few others have used, if ever. Problem - every one knows it... it's a handful of plays that any D coach sipping wine on a Sunday afternoon can figure out without putting in overtime. - JamesJM
