It's true that Gurley ran a steady outside zone in his heyday. But my point is on the mental side Gurley had it together. He was aware. He was smart. He always executed, darn near always anyway. The guy was moody and ended up getting hurt but mentally he was there.
If he was still on this team and healthy the moment that OL started running the plus duo and inside zone stuff (that is this year) he would have done well by it. And the offense would look much different.
I think they're connected. Not pushing some pet peeve here it's just something that stands out on film, guys making mistakes that hurt this offense and cost us points. It's already bad enough that our wideouts are more easy to snuff out this season due to the loss of that third threat. We need those guys to get it together IMO and if that happens this offense will indeed get a boost.
