I think Goff is who Goff is. Seems like he is all or nothing. How he starts is usually the tone for the rest or most of the game.
I sometimes wish McVay would let GOFF call plays, sorta like Manning did. See if that would up his comfort zone. But... I think McVay whispering in his ear till the play clock is fading from 1 to zero is also what the O is and will be.
Blue bit. No he has had games where he came back from a rough start or a rough middle. For that matter he has started well in games and then hit a rough patch (like Miami). It's just not all that cut-n-dried.
Red bit. I don't think the Rams have done the "McVay talking in his ear" thing at all this year by the way.
I agree, it seems McVay is frequently giving Goff options at the line and it's the processing of that info that has caused the clock to expire at times. Also, they frequently mix tempo with sequenced plays and quick snaps that have no checks at all. Speed's notion that McVay has to get Goff in rhythm with rollouts and boots wasn't the case last week as they lined up empty a good deal of the time.
I'm sticking with my premise that McVay is still expanding the offense and Goff along with the rest of the O is still experiencing growing pains that are designed to make the team more dangerous in the post season. They just can't keep rolling out the same 11 personnel zone run/play action deal every game. There must be added dimensions available when the defense so dictates.
What I will keep harping on is the need to include more powers and traps in the running game. Kromer did it very well in Buffalo and needs to do it again.
