As far as Akers, he is a superior talent to Henderson in every way. A top 10 recruit coming out of HS, broke Dalvin Cooks' rookie rushing record at FSU. Is 2" taller, 11 lbs heavier than Hendo. And he ran a faster 40, jumped higher, jumper further. Hendo is shiftier and has a quicker acceleration. Akers has a chance to be special. So does henderson, but Akers has the size and build to be workhorse back special. I suggest patience.
I like Henderson. But it's ironic that someone this year might like him more than Akers, who at this point has already done more in 2020 than Henderson did as a rookie in 2019. In 2020, Akers has 53 touches, 228 yards, and a TD. At the same point of the season in 2019, Henderson had 36 touches, 160 yards, and no TD. In fact Akers already has more touches, yards, and TDs in 2020 than Henderson had in
all of 2019 (43, 184, 0).
Henderson is an example of a rookie offensive skill player getting more in year 2 than he did as a rookie. So anyone who judged DH as not worth the pick last year would have been disproven by his performance this year.
I don't have weeks worth of film study behind this perception (
), but as much as I like Henderson, Akers has better elusiveness and quick movement skills in traffic than DH does.
And again, again--I like DH. I think going forward he gets his share of touches. It's way too soon to dismiss Akers though and in fact, if anything, I think he has already proven he can play and will get more touches in the future. Probably even this year.
