McVay is right to be unhappy with his O. But this O all starts with him, so he needs to figure this out PDQ.

The D has stepped up and is now playing at an elite level and even seems to still be improving weekly. Meanwhile, the O has regressed and ST are a mess. I put the latter 2 on McVay’s plate since he IS the HC, after all.

Goff came out this season with noticeably improved fundamentals but lately has looked like a shadow of himself if we’re being honest. WTH happened?

The suggestion that they wanted to protect Boom has merit, but I watched Boom after he came in and he looked fine. Not dominant, but definitely adequate for either run or pass play calling. IOW, McVay’s hands were not tied. We are gonna find out quickly whether Boom has an NFL future at LOT. I’m cautiously optimistic.

The OL is now top third at the very least, so it’s unreasonable to blame them for O struggles. The RB committee is also doing just fine, so that’s certainly not to blame. The skill players are the same for the last 4 years and yet they now sputter far too much, IMO. Gone is the killer instinct, gone is the amazing efficiency in catching and blocking all too often. They no longer look all that ‘special’ as they once did. The O is in McVay’s wheelhouse and I expect that he will ‘fix’ it. He’d better with this murderous remaining schedule and it won’t get any easier in the playoffs.

Underachieving units annoy me, and this O and certainly the ST are underachieving. We should be playing at a SB favorite level, but we’re not. Instead, we are just playing at ‘also ran’ playoff level with a sputtering O and a disgraceful kicking and coverage level ST.
