A bell cow RB. Something to establish rhythm.
Henderson has been successful establishing rhythm this year. And the numbers show that.
Per Football Outsiders, he is ranked
2nd in Success Rate,
2nd in DVOA, and
3rd in DYAR. So he's great in all 3 categories but it's the Success Rate metric that we should focus in on for this discussion about being a bell cow and establishing rhythm.
Per FO,
"Success Rate represents the player's consistency, measured by successful running plays (the definition of success being different based on down and distance) divided by total running plays. A player with higher DVOA and a low success rate mixes long runs with downs getting stuffed at the line of scrimmage. A player with lower DVOA and a high success rate generally gets the yards needed, but doesn't often get more."Hendy has a high Success Rate which means he consistently gets the yards needed based on down and distance. It shows he's not often getting stuffed at the LOS. That is literally the definition of establishing rhythm!
But since he has a high DVOA too, he's also mixing in a lot of longer runs with his consistent successful every down runs.
For improvement in our offense, we need in order 1) More consistency from the QB, 2) Better and more consistent play-calling and game-planning, and 3) we could use a WR that takes the top off of the defense.
Akers will add to our RB room in terms of depth but he's not going to dramatically change the structure or nature of our offense. All IMO of course.
