What kills me every week is that McVay's job is to put his players in the best position to succeed - he just doesn't do that for Goff - when he gets him in a rhythm early - there arent many Qbs better. When he abandons the run early and starts making Goff wing the ball around - well, you see the mess.
I agree Hacksaw...he (Goff) is what he is at this point.
But this is where Speed's "5-year" comment clashes with your thoughts on McVay: Even the best of OC's will find themselves in a situation (sometimes multiple situations) where (at best) the play they called simply won't work. At worst, the play could lead to his QB getting unnecessarily smoked.
It's at these times that the OC relies, heavily, on the QB to audible out of the play to something else, or to (at lease) adjust his line's protection.
There were 2 - 3 plays in the 1st half where it seemed as though the line protection called for Havs to block down and turn the DE loose on Goff. One such play resulted in the sack/strip/scoop/score. During this play Goff seemed oblivious to the 280-lb DE coming right at him and held onto the ball.
Who's fault is that?
Did Goff and McVay NOT discuss the play during practice this week.
Hey Jared, remember...on this play, you need to get rid of the ball quick. If you don't feel as though your "hot read" is gonna open up in time, you're gonna need to check to something else.5 years into his career, there's an expectation that Jared should
see this, no?
I get the feeling that McVay
NEEDS every second he's allowed on the play clock to communicate with Goff because he's not sure that Goff sees everything he should. I believe that's that confused look I've seen
all too often on Goff's face.
