Rams advanced stats: Aaron Donald’s pressures and the NFL’s best corner trio
Plus Mundt, Reynolds, broken tackles and much more

The Los Angeles Rams beat the Chicago Bears 24-10 on Monday. This is a look at some of the “advanced” stats in those games and up to this point in the season.
Jared Goff, QBGoff averaged 8.1 intended air yards per target, his third-highest total of the season; Goff was at 12 yards per target in the loss against the 49ers and 8.2 in the win over the Eagles. His season-low was 4.5 against the Cowboys in Week 1. Goff was credited with five bad throws against the Bears and he has 15 over the last two weeks after having 19 in the first four.
Per Next Gen Stats:
Jared Goff’s time to throw on MNF aligned with his season average – 2.81 sec for the season and 2.8 on MNF. He averaged 4.2 air yards on his completions, which was tied for 3rd lowest among QBs in Week 7. On the season, Goff is now averaging 5.3 air yards on completions.
Darrell Henderson, RB
Malcolm Brown, RBHenderson came into the game with two broken tackles on the season but he had three on 15 carries this week against the Bears. Henderson averaged 1.9 yards before contact as compared to 3.7 last week and 2.4 the week before.
Brown came into the game with three broken tackles and then he had four against Chicago. Brown was getting 3.3 yards before contact so I guess the offensive line must like him more or the Bears didn’t fear him as much. Brown’s s 2.7 yards before contact is the 10th-best in the NFL and Henderson is at 2.4 YBC. Henderson’s 2.3 yards after contact is tied as the 17th-best.
Next Gen Stats:
While the Bears defense appeared to be missing tackles left and right on MNF, Malcolm Brown (5) and Darrell Henderson (1) only combined for 6 rushing yards over expectation. Brown finished with 10 carries for 57 yards and 1 TD, while Henderson went for 15 carries and 64 yards.
Josh Reynolds, WR
Cooper Kupp, WR
Robert Woods, WRKupp’s 3.5 average depth of target was his lowest of the season and the third-lowest of his career. Compare that to last week against San Francisco: Kupp had an ADOT of 13.3 yards. But he only caught three of nine passes and only gained 11 yards. Against the Bears he caught all six targets but only gained 34 yards.
Woods was targeted five times, gaining 22 yards with 10 of those yards coming after the catch. His ADOT was 9.8. Woods had a season-high four rushing attempts and he gained 23 yards.
In a 24-10 win over the Bengals in 2019, Reynolds was targeted eight times and he caught three passes for 73 yards and one touchdown. He had an ADOT of 17.3.
In a 24-10 win over the Bears in 2020, Reynolds was targeted eight times and he caught four passes for 52 yards and one touchdown. He had an ADOT of 17.6.
Over his last 16 games, Reynolds has caught 37 of 62 targets for 570 yards. He averages a high number of yards per target, a low catch rate with nominal scoring. His performance on Sunday is on the upper end of how often he’ll be targeted but was also nothing unusual for Josh Reynolds.
Next Gen Stats:
Josh Reynolds averaged 17.3 air yards on his targets, 3rd highest among all qualified pass catchers in Week 7. He also accounted for 57.9% of the Rams’ targeted air yards.
Johnny Mundt, TE
Gerald Everett, TEMundt had a career-high 48 yards but what is maybe more interesting is that he forced two broken tackles. Robert Woods has zero broken tackles forced this season and Kupp has two. Mundt is already tied for second-most on the team among receivers and tight ends and he only trails the four by Gerald Everett. By comparison, Reynolds has 68 yards after the catch on 18 catches, while Mundt already has 45 yards after the catch on four.
Mundt’s 41 YAC on Monday is better than all but two of Everett’s career games
Aaron Donald, DLDonald now has 21 pressures, tied with Joey Bosa and Myles Garrett for second-most behind T.J. Watt’s 23. Donald’s eight sacks is second only to Garrett’s nine. Leonard Floyd is tied for 12th in pressures with 15 of them.
Next Gen Stats:
Aaron Donald was a beast for the Rams, picking up 8 QB pressures and marking his league-leading 9th game since 2016 with 8+ pressures. Leonard Floyd had 6 QB pressures and 2 sacks himself in a revenge game against the Bears. Floyd combined with Donald and the rest of the Rams’ defense to pressure Nick Foles on 37.2% of his dropbacks.
Troy Hill, CB
Jalen Ramsey, CB
Darious Williams, CBHill reportedly had five missed tackles against the Bills but in his last four games since he only has two. He’s also been fairly shutdown given his responsibilities: 17 of 26 targets completed, 130 yards allowed, one touchdown, one pass deflection in the end zone that became an interception ... Troy Hill has been huge over the last four games.
In the last three games, Williams has reportedly allowed four of seven targets to be completed, giving up only 58 yards with one touchdown. He was credited with one catch and eight yards allowed against the Bears. In Ramsey’s last four: six of 14, 69 yards, no touchdowns, one interception.
