Suh-weet!
My point is simply that the reverse is also true: the Rams' strong passing game sets up their running game. The Rams have given big contracts not only to their QB, but to two WRs and a TE. The 49% play action stat, again, is about uncertainty: make different plays look the same to the defense. Make them hesitate.
"Running team," "passing team" - with the Rams it's a chicken-egg problem, and IMO you're missing the point if you insist that they're one or the other.
I get the point you're making. Different teams use the run differently, and some like the Rams just simply intend for the defense to be off balance--they run/pass to set up the pass/run. Some teams run because they're ahead and they're finishing the 4th quarter. Etc.
Here's another detail though. Here are the top 10 teams in rushing percentage...and the teams with winning records (so far) are highlighted in red.
1 Cleveland2 LA Rams3 New England
4 Minnesota
5 Tennessee6 Baltimore7 Indianapolis8 LA Chargers
9 Green Bay10 Pittsburgh70%.
My only point is that claiming teams with a high rushing percentage aren't in the wave of winning (which of course you did not say) doesn't add up.
Here's the bottom 10 too. Of course a lot of these teams are passing because they're playing from behind. Again, winning = red.
23 Buffalo24 Washington
25 Tampa Bay26 Cincinnati
27 Philadelphia
28 Houston
29 Chicago30 NY Giants
31 Dallas
32 Jacksonville
