PFF loved Hill last year and as an Oregon Duck. The stats 43 has posted on completion percentage against him and missed tackels are undeniably bad. As is his curent PFF grade. Hill is playing out of position at slot. Will he have the light go on and get it? Or is he simply a player who does better outside with the sideline to help him? He is being a team player to do this position change in a contract year. How long do you hang in there with players like Hill, Rapp, and Kiser who have been up and down in 3 games this season, in a new defense after an odd offseason? Hopefully they are all going to become consistently good. There are other good options at Nickel. The Terrell Burgess slip on 3rd-and-25 pass was a fluke. I'd like to see him a Nickel but they seem to be focused on him as a S right now. We know Staley will start a rookie. David's Long's time has to come this year or next year.

New Rams CB David Long holds the draft class' lowest reception rate, by a long shot, allowing a reception on just 29.0% of his targets last season.

The play of cornerbacks Troy Hill and Nickell Robey-Coleman this season landed them among Pro Football Focus' league-wide Top 25 for the position. Robey-Coleman checked in at No. 19, followed by Hill at No. 20.
"Nickell Robey-Coleman continues to solidify himself as one of the league's best slot cornerbacks," wrote PFF analyst Solomon Wilcots, a former NFL defensive back. "He accelerates with quick closing speed after showing patience in press man-to-man coverage, and he is good enough to stick with receivers at the top of their routes."
Hill, meanwhile drew praise for allowing the fewest receptions (23) of any cornerback with a minimum of 300 coverage snaps.
"Hill was moved into a starting role after the Rams moved on from Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters, but he has rewarded the move by developing into a primetime presence in the Rams' promising secondary," Wilcots wrote.

This season, Hill has been targeted 39 times but he’s allowed just 20 completions (51.3%), one touchdown and a passer rating of 66.8. Ramsey has seen 50 passes thrown his way, allowing 32 catches (64%), one touchdown and a 93.2 passer rating.

While with the Rams these past four years, Hill has never seen a full season as a starter — but his 2019 production makes him deserving of such a role. Hill’s coverage grade was among the 25 best in football, and he allowed the second lowest catch rate (45.1%).

"Troy Hill's 76.4 PFF grade ranked 12th among all qualifying CB's in the NFL last season.
Ranks among CB's w/35+ tgts:
- 2nd lowest completion %
- 11th in forced incompletion %
- 5th in NFL passer rating allowed
- 12th fewest receiving yards allowed
Sounds pretty decent to me!"

Pro Football Focus praises two CFAs signed by Bengals
Troy Hill, CB, Oregon, Cincinnati Bengals
With the way this cornerback class was bunched together, both myself and Sam Monson actually saw Hill as one of the five best available. Our sixth-highest graded player at the position, Hill allowed just 435 yards and a quarterback rating of 63.9 on passes thrown into his coverage. His 11 pass breakups were tied for second in the class, and he added an interception for good measure.
