If Goff wasn't smart and talented, he would not be where he is. I know McVay is incredible, but c'mon...Goff is under appreciated...
His OL is a big deal. Not a lot of QB's could handle last year. McVay threw a ton last year....626 attempts...
Goff did need to get better and does need to play well when things break down, but he is a really, really good QB....
It is true, Todd Surely was a drag on this team on the field (because of the injury) and terrible attitude and body language off it. It is better with three RB's because the D does not know Surely is getting the ball. I love all that Surely did and he is a tough dude, but his attitude and actions after his release lost me. They could have not paid him and he would be $20-30mm less than he has made.
But I digress....
I agree, McVay incorporated some Shanahan stuff....
Simms knows his stuff, but to assume any QB could produce with McVay is a stretch....
I think on a subconscious level he tries to undermine Goff a bit, but he is coming around....I bet he would trade Jimmy G for him a New York minute that is for sure.
I personally don't mind him giving more credit to McVay at this point, but if Goff continues to play like this, all his doubters (like Simms) are going to have to admit the kid can deal...people sometimes just look at the QB and nothing else in judging them, not taking the time to figure out why a QB is struggling, but when the QB starts playing better they want to point to reasons why...Interesting indeed
