btw - Fuller is around EVERY play I'm noticing....at the bottom of the pile or the guy hitting the WR. Fuller is just BALLIN right now. I'm stunned we got that kind of quality starter in the 6th round and the kid is STARTING from Game 1 of his career. How special and unique is that?!! Is AD the last rookie starter we had besides Goff??? It's really really rare.
And we have him locked up cheap for 4 more yrs. WOW. That's like a 1st round pick at FS.
And that's not even counting the other 4 players we got mid-rounds (2nd - 4th) - Akers, VJ, Burgess & Lewis....and Hig-Beast clone - TE Hopkins.
Hopkins will prolly take longest to develop as is usual with TEs....Hopkins moves/plays sooo much like Higbee and with really natural hands.
But Fuller is the Crown Jewel of the draft 2 games in. imo
... is an absolutely extraordinary story so far. And I don't just mean his performance omg the field. In fact, I thought the hoopla over his game 1 performance was overstated. Far as I could tell, he didn't play that great EXCEPT for the Huge Play. And that play wasn't a spectacular play as much as a spectacularly timely play (as first-game plays go). He played better in Game 2.
As you say, it's rare enough that a 6th-rounder starts from Game 1 as a rookie. What's really incredible is that in the course of a limited preseason opportunity he leapfrogged the pretty ballyhooed incumbent and presumptive starter (Rapp) AND a 3rd-round pick who got a lotta love coming out of the draft (Burgess). Rapp, of course, had the injury setback, but seems clear the love for Fuller wasn't simply about Rapp not being ready.
For a rookie 6th-round pick to start from Game 1 having outperformed TWO guys who were presumably ahead of him having only a very limited preseason to do it... WOW.
