So yeah it's a big competition spot across the board this year.
The Rams are definitely looking for someone who can eat carries, first off. That is an area this room came up short in 2019 and it was a big element in a down season. They need to have a guy who will line up and know where the play call leads him in the run, know where the weaknesses in pass pro are for a given pre-snap look, and most importantly can be available to play.
Brown has been getting a lot of talk this offseason. Even guys like MJD have talked him up. But for two consecutive seasons this guy has not been able to stay healthy as a BACKUP. And last year when we really needed someone to eat snaps where was Brown? Yeah.
I don't know that the roster has the depth to push Brown out. But I will say even that depth role he has inhabited will be looked hard at and if there's other options that arise on the roster he's going to need to beat them out.
I never really got the "hype" over Brown. Seems like a nice kid but nothing special as a RB. I never saw him as a #1 or even capable of carrying the load for more than a few games. He was a good compliment to Gurley though.
I have to think McVay is hoping for DH or CA to carry the bulk of the carries. I think we will know by week 4-5 who is the most effective. If DH can become a "threat" we will have a good mix of speed and power with CA and MB.
Healthy, he's very good. Faster than given credit for, but, above all, strong and runs "angry" - a load to bring down if you give him just a couple yards of space. I don't know that he can do what he does over 20 carries, much less game after game. But that's a moot point w/Henderson and Akers in the mix. I'm glad we have MB.
