It's the simple business of customer acquisition, nothing more nothing less.
The kids love it, look no further than college sports. They love change, they love flash and they want more and more. Times are a changing, sorry it's so hard for so many of you to get. People don't become fans as they close in on their retirement years? And please, stop talking about how much more $$$ older folks invest in it, I've got 20 somethings with thousands of dollars in gear in their closets that work for me. Kids that wear game jerseys as everyday attire each and every day rarely duplicating a look.
I became a Rams at age 7 and I bought my first season tickets when I was 23. Like any business, the Rams know the old customers are in the bag and they're doing everything they can to acquire new young ones.
I think some of you are being more than a bit naïve.
Having said all that, even if I agreed with you, it still doesn't change the fact that what they "created" is inferior to what they already had. Who is to say that the "younger" crowd wouldn't have liked Crazyleg's designs even more than what was released? IMO, the RESULTS of the re-design IS the issue more so than the fact a re-design was done at all. If it would have (and Crazylegs proved it could have) been done better, I think the overall reaction would have been better too.
IMO, there was no need to neuter the helmet horn. Was that needed to attract a younger crowd? I don't think so. Will a Fibonacci sequence bring in more young fans than a regular style horn? I doubt it. Will the addition of the "stitch" attract more young fans than a uni without the "stitch"? I think not. Does making the away color be "sand" instead of white guarantee more young people will like them? I think not.
A bad re-design is still a BAD design no matter how people (not you DaJudge) try to justify it. IMO, everything from the stolen ASU logo and phallus faced Ram head to the neutered horn all could have been done better...but it wasn't. It just screams of being "over thought" (or too cute like Mama says) and was/is a failure based on what could have been done.
IMO, Crazyleg's designs would have drawn just as many new fans as the new uni will. Maybe more.
#HelmetHornsMatter
“Well, the color is good, I like the metallic blue,” Youngblood recently said while laughing, via NFL Journal. “The horn is terrible. It looks like a ‘C.’ When I first saw it on the logo I honestly thought it was a Charger logo.
“Now when I see it on the helmet, it just isn’t a ram horn. There is no distinct curl like a mature ram horn. I don’t know how the Rams could get that wrong. That is your symbol and it has been for what? Seventy years or more? Longer than I have been alive? It’s just not us, it’s not the Rams.”---Mr. Ram Jack Youngblood
