In the 1st qtr, Buford McGee took a hand off and at the last second, threw a short slightly forward pass to Gary. Often, the usual RB pass has little deception. That play in 1990 was a total surprise. Inside the 5, I would use it like the Gators did with Tebow doing jump passes. They do not have to be elaborate / long passes. I bet it would really keep Ds on the heels a bit.
