I have my fingers crossed that Woods will sign for less, perhaps even a lot less, than $17M a year.
He's 28 right now & he's signed thru 2020 & 2021. In 2022 he'll be 30 years old, not exactly the age that the market sees kindly.
In addition, Woods' next contract will be his 3rd. Although this certainly isn't 100% true, many players make money a priority for their 2nd contract but consider other factors (in addition to money) when signing their 3rd. Money will still be important, obviously, but quality of life decisions (kids in school? wife likes where they are? are there business opportunities that will be important post-retirement? really like teammates & coaches? opportunity to win?) Woods has already said he wants to be a Rams for life. Maybe these non-money factors really are important to him ...
